LAKELAND, Fla. -- Students from Kathleen High School in Lakeland raised money from other students at their school to buy movie tickets for the kids that live at the Lakeland campus of the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes.

The group, called Future Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) organized a “dollar drive” and asked students to contribute one dollar towards their project. The group raised $125 for the Children’s Homes. In addition they provided Valentine’s Day cookies they made in their cooking class for all the kids on the Lakeland campus.

The group personally delivered the funds to Eron Green, the administrator for the Lakeland campus. During their visit they also toured the campus and met some of the children.

Karen Kilday, faculty advisor for the group said that her students wanted to do something for the community by helping children who were less fortunate than themselves.  “They chose the Children’s Homes because they are in our community. The kids at the Children’s Homes go to our school and our students relate to them as fellow teenagers,” Kilday said.
